Motivation

We all want it and most of us wait for it. Tasks, exercise, jobs around the house all require an element of motivation. Life itself is constantly asking questions of us. It frequently tests our resilience and will to carry on with an upwards trajectory or to keep ourselves steady if we’re already flying high.

Like death and taxes, suffering too is an inevitable part of life. We all have a choice to make between living with the pain of discipline or regret. Motivation doesn’t whimsically come into our lives one day and present itself to us. Rather it is cultivated by the effort we make.

The start line can often feel like a lonely and daunting place to those of us who have perhaps had an absence of motivation in our lives for some time. Setting achievable goals that are realistic therefore will help us succeed where we might otherwise over stretch and set ourselves up for a fall.

Steadily working through a list of goals is the best way of cultivating motivation. Start low to give yourself a chance and notice how good it feels to accomplish whatever it might be that you have asked of yourself. This tends to have a habit of snowballing and once you get the bug, you’ll find yourself thinking, ‘I wonder what else I might be capable of?’
