How I work
During my time as a therapist a large proportion of clients I have had have been young men in their early twenties to late thirties (but I do work with other demographics and genders too).

Some of the common themes that we have looked at together have included:

-
Loneliness
-
Anger
-
Isolation
-
Disconnection with society
-
Feeling numb and disengaged with life.

So aside from starting an underground Fight Club with our alter egos, building cabins in the woods to live off the land or losing ourselves in career goals that further expand the size of our tv screens, what else might we pursue to remedy these common afflictions?

Person centered therapy
Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their feelings, needs and problems in a safe, structured, confidential setting.
My main approach to counselling is through person centered therapy, a type of therapy based on the principle that if a person's essential needs are met then they can reach their full potential.
Sadly, most of the people who are thinking about counselling don’t even know what their needs are yet, so it's no wonder they aren’t met! My job is to help you figure them out.

I work
with you
I am passionate about the principles that govern Person Centred Therapy and these form the basis of our sessions. I will always:
-
Accept and value you as you are
-
Be honest and genuine in my responses
-
Work towards understanding your experiences and perspectives
Together we will work towards broadening your knowledge of yourself, building an appreciative, rewarding, nurturing and compassionate understanding for why, what and who you are. I may offer observations, and point out themes, patterns and frequently used words but ultimately, I am reflecting back what you are giving me because you are the expert on you.
"The greatest journey one can take is the 18 inches
from their head to their heart" - Anon
I love this saying as it succinctly sums up the fact that once we know and understand ourselves, both our heads and our hearts, we can find peace and a way to move forward with our lives in a way that is authentically us.
I work
in person or online
I offer counselling both in person, from my home in Crediton, online or a mixture of both. It is up to you which you prefer as everyone's preferences aren't always the same.
